How to Care for Your Canvas Art | MB Canvas

You invested in a piece you love. Here's how to make sure it stays that way.

Canvas art is more durable than most people think — but a few simple habits will keep it looking gallery-fresh for decades, not just years.

Dust Is the Enemy — But It's Easy to Beat

Light dust accumulation is normal. Every few months, gently wipe the surface with a clean, dry microfiber cloth using light, circular motions. Never use paper towels — they're abrasive at the microscopic level.

For deeper dust in textured areas, a soft-bristle brush or a can of compressed air (held at a distance) works well and is my favorite for some reason- i guess because I'm not "touching" the art.

Keep It Away From These Three Things

  • Minimize consistent direct sunlight — UV rays fade pigments over time, even the best archival inks. Hang away from windows or use UV-filtering glass nearby.
  • Avoid high humidity — Bathrooms and kitchens can cause canvas to warp or stretch. If you must hang art there, ensure good ventilation.
  • Heat sources — Fireplaces, radiators, and vents dry out canvas and can cause cracking over time.

What About Cleaning?

For light smudges, a barely damp cloth — emphasis on barely — applied with zero pressure. Let it air dry completely. Never spray anything directly onto the canvas surface.

Avoid all chemical cleaners, furniture polish, and anything with alcohol or ammonia.

If It Gets Damaged

Minor dents from the back can often be gently pushed out by lightly moistening the back of the canvas with a damp cloth and allowing it to dry taut. For anything more serious, a professional art restorer is worth the call.

The MB Canvas Advantage

Our prints use archival-grade, UV-resistant inks on heavyweight poly-cotton canvas — tested to maintain vibrancy for up to 100 years under normal conditions. With basic care listed above, what you hang today becomes what your family inherits tomorrow.

I hope this helps! Most of the tips are pretty obvious however its always important to understand to do's and don'ts completely.  Every MB Canvas print is built to last. Browse the full collection.
